Please note that the Gum firewood which we have at the moment is not totally dry. It’s not green timber but rain wet.The weather this past month has been really wet.The trees we cutting now are dead stands of trees so are exposed to the weather. This is not the same as green timber as it’s only surface water and will burn off. This does mean it will take a bit of love to get the fire going but once the water is burn off it will burn.We will be supplying an extra bag of free kindling in order to help with this This only applies to the Gum firewood and not the Pine,Gum mill offcuts,Rooikraans or Kameeldoring(Namibian hardwood).
Each half load consists of 10 bags of wood (with 20 wood pieces per bag )
We use a splitter to split the fire wood, which sometimes produces pieces that are not neat as some pieces are “torn ” apart. The pieces are chunky (not too big though and will still fit a standard fire place)
* Please make special mention in notes, if you do not wish to have these pieces mixed into your load.*
These pieces do burn longer though as they are cut from harder, knottier portions.
Wood species differ in density and even within the same species they differ (e.g. there are over 200 species of Gum trees in SA and some are more dense than others).
When ordering Hardwood from Hout Bay Firewood you may get a mix of hardwood varieties such as:
- Beefwood (Casarena, some say it’s the best firewood in the World)
- Blackwood. Etc
We are confident that our wood is of good quality and that it will keep you warm this Winter.
If you prefer Gum only please make sure that you stipulate this on your order.
Each load consists of 10 bags.
